Sixty pastors and church leaders recently gathered together in Livingstone, Zambia, for a training conference hosted by AFCI Zambia. Many pastors throughout Africa have never had access to solid Biblical or theological training. Providing this training is part of AFCI’s core vision. This conference assembled pastors and trainers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana, and the USA.

Rural pastors, who often are responsible for several congregations, do not have the ability to pay for formal training and many have never learned how to study the Bible or prepare a sermon.

The training sessions in this leadership conference included:

  • A study on the epistle to the Romans
  • A study on the epistle to the Galatians
  • Inductive Bible Study methods

Pastors were taught how to approach a Scripture passage as if for the first time and ask, “Who wrote this?” and “Why was it written?” Rather than jumping immediately to the application of a passage, they learned the importance of context, observation, and interpretation before application.

Mark Kaoma, AFCI Zambia National Director, described the conference:

“People were revived, inspired, and motivated to teach and rightly divide the True Word of God. From the Inductive Bible Study Methods and the book of Romans, we also gained a lot of knowledge on how to conduct a Bible study. The topics covered were timely and seeing that most of our pastors have no theological training, the conference was of great importance.”

Thank you to Community Bible Church in Beaufort, South Carolina, who helped make this such a strategic event.
