Guided by our purpose of making Christ known to the nations, AFCI was excited to hold a strategic summit focused on our Spanish-speaking teams, called Al Futuro, in Sosúa, Dominican Republic in April 2024.

We hosted 30 individuals from the Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Peru, and the International Headquarters (USA) for a week of training, vision-casting, and ministry.

Together, we examined how the connections of our current team members could naturally lead to the expansion of AFCI’s ministry into other Latin American nations, looking to the future of AFCI’s ministry in this diverse region connected by a common language.

Why a Spanish Summit?

  • Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language in the world, with over 469 million native speakers.
  • It is the official language of 20 countries in the Americas.
  • 82% of Spanish speakers are unevangelized.
  • AFCI is committed to reaching them.

The Al Futuro summit not only equipped our Spanish-speaking teams with the tools needed to accomplish this bold vision, but also provided opportunities to apply those tools by having ministry throughout the community in Sosúa during the week.

What Was the Impact?

The virtue of this summit was that the focused training and idea-sharing was entirely in the participants’ heart language. The response demonstrated that each team member was renewed in their vision for ministry and resourced with new tools to accomplish that vision. They returned home with a broader understanding of AFCI’s vision of every person in Latin America being invited to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Having identified geographic locations where the Gospel has not yet been presented and the Church has not yet been established, these teams will become catalysts for church planting throughout the Spanish-speaking world. The task is immense, yet our charge is simply this: “lift up your eyes and see that the fields are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35).

Thank you to everyone who made the Al Futuro Summit such a successful event. It laid the groundwork for even greater ministry not only in the Dominican Republic, but also throughout the Spanish-speaking world.
