Ministry in the War Zone
AFCI is founded on the principle of ministry by nationals; that is, people living in and reaching out to their own nations with the Gospel. Since nationals already know the local language and culture, they are able to establish an effective ministry in a short amount of time.
However, when conflict and war arise, nationals – and their ministries – must endure the difficulties along with the rest of the population. Because of limited resources and lack of transportation, they often are unable to leave the danger zone. Millions of people are displaced and forced to live in great hardship.
AFCI has had a seminary in North Africa for many years, training young and men and women to take the Gospel into their own communities. Recently, a devastating war errupted in the area and the staff and students found themselves in the center of the conflict.
One young graduate reported that she had been able to find a relatively safe place to live in the city. Despite the ongoing war, she had used her house to gather together Christians living nearby. They had been coming to her home for a whole day of fellowship and teaching one day a month. Since none of them had enough money to buy food in a war zone, AFCI had been able to send funds for them to have a decent meal together during the day.
Sadly, the graduate reported that bombs started falling in the neighborhood and they all had to run. We recently heard that she has lost contact with the majority of the people she had been training. Having had to leave her home, she is now just living under a tree along with several friends.
War has a devastating affect on the physical and spiritual condition of a nation. Please pray with us for North Africa and the:
- Safety of the innocent people caught up in conflict.
- Strength of the pastors and church leaders who continue to minister in these areas despite great hardship and danger.
- Opportunity for the Gospel to bring hope in midst of suffering.
