The first Sunday of October is recognized by several denominations as World Communion Sunday. It is an opportunity for congregations around the world to recognize and celebrate the unity we have as brothers and sisters in Christ. But what happens when the church has no one to serve communion?

In Ghana, many of the small Presbyterian churches do not have an ordained minister. A church may have someone in the congregation who is preaching every Sunday, but there is no one who is the pastor. Without properly trained leadership, these churches do not have the benefit of a shepherd who meets the spiritual needs of the congregation, including serving communion.

To fill the gap, the few local ordained ministers travel church to church on this Sunday to visit these remote congregations. This year, Yaw Danso, the AFCI Ghana National Director, was invited to participate as one of these itinerant pastors. What a great opportunity for these men and women to be united with the worldwide church!
